EPIC Film Committee and Submissions

We are honored to be on the Film & Animation Committee for EPIC2018 this year in Honolulu, Hawaii. We encourage anyone who has utilized this media as a language to imbue ethnographic data with visceral meaning and deeper context to submit their work. The best of the best will be carefully selected and curated into an engaging and inspiring session.

“The numbers have no way of speaking for themselves. We speak for them. We imbue them with meaning…. Before we demand more of our data, we need to demand more of ourselves.” ―Nate Silver, The Signal and the Noise

Submission and Conference Information

EPIC2018 is in Honolulu, Hawaii 9–12 October, 2018.

The EPIC2018 is the premier global conference on ethnography in business. In this conference we will tackle the theme Evidence. At a time when research methods are proliferating, the connection between evidence and decisions seems more tenuous than ever.

We will explore:

  • the richness of methods & approaches in contemporary ethnographic practice

  • the changing types of evidence that are now possible

  • how to make a case with evidence in a challenging social environment The committee particularly encourages submissions at the emerging intersection of data science and ethnography. In addition to contributions from the many fields that regularly engage in ethnographic work, we invite data and computer scientists, as well as teams of ethnographers + data/computer scientists.
